FC Dallas got a 1-0 win over Revolution on Thursday night
Ugo Ihemelu scored in extra time as FC Dallas got a 1-0 win over the New England Revolution on Thursday night.
The win lifts FC Dallas to fifth place in the Western Conference. New England maintains its position, with six points and tied for second place in the Eastern Conference.
The hosts dominated the game from start to finish but failed to score as New England keeper Matt Reis made key save after save. Reis made two significant saves in the final 10 minutes, stopping a close-range shot from Fabian Castillo in the 91st minute and leaping to punch away Brek Shea’s right-footed volley from the top of the penalty box in the 87th.
But the goalkeeper could not do anything when Ugo Ihemelu nodded home a free kick with the final whistle mere seconds away, taking a nice setup from Zach Loyd on a free kick from 25 yards out and heading it into the right corner.
“We were creating more quality chances.” FC Dallas coach Schellas Hyndman said. “Both teams were going after those three points very hard, Ugo was cramping in the second half, and we almost pulled him out. But he stayed out there and scored the goal. What a great example for a captain.”
FC Dallas next host Montreal on April 14, meanwhile New England drop to 2-3-0. They next host D.C. United, also on April 14.
